“The Guidelines is a goldmine for schools!  It is priceless.  Prior to the Guidelines, we had nothing to help us deal with this problem.  It is so very much needed.”

ANAD SCHOOL GUIDELINES PROGRAM

A Free In-Service Program on Eating Disorders

Eating disorders have become epidemic in the student population.  Programs for primary and secondary schools are crucial because over 60% of victims report the onset of their illness by age 18.

Does your school staff have the tools necessary to deal with eating disorders?

While most schools have extensive alcohol/drug education programs, very few offer eating disorders education or prevention programs.

ANAD takes an active role in educating school personnel, parents and students about understanding and preventing eating disorders.
The highly-acclaimed School Guidelines Program provides teachers, coaches, guidance counselors and other school personnel with specific directions, which help them effectively assist at-risk students, as well as those who already have been identified as having an eating disorder.

Addressing the problem of obesity and promoting the concept of “health at every size” encourages wellness and wholeness.  Eating in healthy ways and active
living is also part of the Guidelines Program.

A crucial aspect of this program is to teach school professionals how to educate and help young people to avoid the life-destroying dangers of anorexia nervosa, bulimia, and binge eating disorder and obesity.

As a further enhancement to the Guidelines, we have developed a PowerPoint presentation we include on a CD in each copy of the Guidelines.
The ANAD School Guidelines Program is designed to assist school personnel in handling the issues of eating disorders among students.  Included in the ANAD School Guidelines Program:
  • Student Assessment
  • Suggested Interventions by staff members and students
  • Comparison of symptoms and stages in anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and obesity
  • Suggestions for helping the overweight child
  • A guide for parents
  • Cross-cultural and cross-gender awareness issues
  • Bibliography of eating disorders references
  • Scripts for role playing with students
  • Suggestions for healthy living: adequate exercise, sufficient sleep and self-acceptance.
